Our 200th Post!

March 17, 2008

Matt posts more than me, but I stole the glory by writing the 100th post and now the 200th post on LeCavs.com.

But this time, I’m not just thiefin’…I actually got something to say.

What’s going on with the haters?

First things first, why does everyone already hate Wally? I like him. I think he can be huge for us in the playoffs. And frankly, he’s one of only three proven guys on our team (The other being Lebron and Z).

I know Wally hasn’t been great so far in a Cavs uniform, and that he has taken (and missed) alot of shots. But that’s what he does. He’s a great shooter and scorer. One of the best in the NBA. I was one of the first to start hating on Larry Hughes because we signed him to a huge deal after one above average season. For his career, Larry Hughes still only has that one above average season to show.

Wally is a proven shooter. He has shot a great % from the field for 9 straight years now in the NBA, and averaged over 20 ppg for an entire season. He is a very good free throw shooter, and from what I’ve seen, is not a liability on defense (though he’s not exactly a shut down defender either). I know that Damon Jones has been good of late, but once Wally’s shot starts falling, I would like to see him cut into some of DJ’s minutes as he is just more valuable to the team.

People, including many on this forum, don’t like Sasha. I don’t know why, he’s an athletic 2 guard who plays above average defense and can hit the outside shot, and drive to the hoop. Frankly, I’m happy to have him back, and back in the starting 5.

Z is great. People have hated on him for a long time. Most fans saw how much we missed him when he was gone. Andy is a nice player, but we don’t have anybody on this team that can play the Center position and demand as much attention as big Z.

Of all the players on this new team, only one guy has really disappointed me thus far. His name is Delonte West, I expected Delonte to be more of a slasher, breaking guys down of the dribble, and either scoring at the basket or kicking out to the open shooter. So far, it seems that he has been content with being that shooter (and he has shot well) but I really want him to be more assertive in the offense and look to score about 15 a game and dish out about 6 assists.

Still, this Cavs team is very good and very dangerous, with a now much improved bench. I would also like to thank Deshawn Stevenson, for sealing his team’s fate in the playoffs and ensuring that Lebron stays angry and hungry.

There’s a new team in town!

The 2007-08 Cleveland Cavaliers!

I’ll leave it to Matt to tell you what he thinks about this trade. I’m gonna talk about who we got and what they give our team:

Here’s what we’re getting:

1. An Afro

2. A crazy tattooed black guy with white skin.

3. The best looking guy in the league (apologies to Chris Mihm)

4. A #1 pick.

I’m out!

But seriously, we’re getting better as a team, I truly believe it, here’s why:

1. Larry Hughes is gone!

I’m out!

I’m sorry. Please, this is no time for jokes (not really a joke), let’s talk about the guys we got.

“Big” Ben Wallace:

Fits our team perfectly. He’s big, he’s strong, he’s mean, and he’s intimidating. We need someone to get in other players faces when they throw Lebron down (not that Lebron can’t take care of himself). We need a guy who can throw down, get rebounds, play strong D, and convert around the basket. That’s what Ben is…great fit for our team.

“Average” Joe Smith:

Not bad. Really Not bad. He’s a solid big who can hit shots, get rebounds, play some D, and makes smart plays. While he will never live up to his #1 pick hopes, he’s no Kwame Brown either. Given the same minutes, Smith will put up Gooden like numbers (maybe a few less rebounds). Good pick-up for the playoffs.

“Pretty Boy” Wally Sczcerbiak:

This is my favorite part of the trade. Everyone in Cleveland was pining for Mike Miller. Well here is your Mike Miller. Wally is just as good a scorer, a better outside shooter, a bit stronger. He is a bit injury prone and is not as good a rebounder as Miller. Don’t forget that Wally averaged about 20 ppg a few seasons ago. He is exactly what Larry Hughes should have been, and a perfect fit for our style of offense. Unlike some other shooters, Wally is not afraid to drive to the hoop. I love it. So does my wife and every other woman in Cleveland.

“Wild Wild” Delonte West:

When I first heard about this trade is was reported that we got David West (from NO), it didn’t make any sense to me but it got me a bit horny in the pantiloons. Now I know it’s Delonte. Still feeling a bit Randy. Apparently, the Cavs have made a deal to sign every player Lebron posterizes, first Damon Jones and now Delonte West, it’s going top be fun when we sign Dirk Nowitzki in a few years. Delonte still isn’t the true PG we needed, but he should help. He’s young, quick, fearless and apparently a solid rapper. He’s a pretty good scorer that we can start at PG or bring off the bench. Hopefully playing with him will give Boobie some killer instinct to attack the rim every now and then. He also looks funny. I like that about him.

My Grade: B+

Tomorrow should be fun with our 6 man team and our 2-3 D leaguers.
I’m Out!

Prophetic.
