Best Point Guard

December 18, 2007

I was skimming today’s Hollinger (free ESPN insider) about Chris Paul, but had to cut that short and use the rest of my lunch hour for this post once I noticed a sidebar about halfway down.

I’m still undecided as to how much creedence I lend to advanced stats such as Hollinger’s PER. I feel like a) we’re still very early in the stat revolution for basketball and b) stats will never carry the weight they do in a sport like baseball, where the competition distills largely to pitcher vs. hitter. Still, a huge smile crossed my face when I read that the 2nd greatest season in the history of any player less than 6′3″ came in a Cavs uniform.

Yes, Mark Price’s 20 and 9 was magnificent, but no, it doesn’t compare to the 1995-96 season of one Thomas Terrell Brandon.

Carry on.
